How Chamco Helped Two Oil & Gas Companies Protect Their Assets for Nearly Half the Cost of Traditional Foam Systems

Chamco-engineered FireDos system featuring a mechanical, water-powered foam pump, part of a turnkey fire protection solution for cost-conscious oil & gas customers.

Project Background

In 2024, two major North American oil & gas companies needed to install fire foam protection systems for various new sites across Western Canada.

After previously working with Chamco for traditional fire foam systems on larger sites, both companies returned to explore our fire protection solutions for small sites with limited budgets.

The Challenge

Chamco was tasked with providing complete fire foam protection systems that would overcome several significant challenges while maintaining regulatory compliance and safety standards.

  • Cost and Space Constraints

Traditional fire foam systems, while effective for larger facilities, were simply too expensive and required too large a footprint for these smaller sites. The companies needed solutions that would fit within their budgets and spaces while still providing comprehensive protection.

  • Reliability Without Compromising Protection

Because fire protection systems are critical for asset and personnel safety, both companies wanted to ensure that any alternative solution would provide the same level of protection as traditional systems, while being mindful of cost.

  • Eliminating Vulnerabilities

Traditional fire foam systems rely on electrical power and backup generators, which introduce potential points of failure. Power outages or fuel issues could compromise the system when it’s needed most, and the companies were looking for solutions that would eliminate these vulnerabilities.

Why the Oil & Gas Companies Chose Chamco

Both companies had long-standing relationships with Chamco, having purchased traditional fire foam packages, fire pumps, and air compressors for other sites in the past. When faced with these new challenges, they turned to Chamco, knowing they would receive expert guidance rather than just standard solutions.

Unlike several other bidders who simply proposed the traditional fire foam systems despite the constraints, Chamco took the time to understand the customers’ unique needs and introduced them to an innovative solution.

The two companies appreciated Chamco’s technical expertise, product confidence, and commitment to educating them on the new technology.

The Solution

After carefully evaluating the site requirements, Chamco proposed the FireDos foam system, a purely mechanical, water-driven solution that offered an innovative alternative to traditional fire foam systems.

  • Innovative Mechanical Design

The FireDos system operates on a fundamentally different principle than traditional fire foam systems:

    • Water-Driven Operation: The FireDos system is driven by the water flow itself, instead of requiring electric or diesel-powered pumps.
    • Simplified Components: The FireDos system only requires water pressure and foam concentrate, eliminating the need for electric motors, diesel engines, controllers, and backup systems.
    • Compact Design: The FireDos packages are 40-60% smaller than traditional fire foam systems, reducing the footprint required on site.
  • Cost-Effective Protection

While maintaining the same level of fire protection, the innovative design of the FireDos system led to over 40% cost savings compared to traditional systems. This cost-efficiency made it possible for both oil & gas companies to protect their smaller sites without exceeding their budgets.

  • Increased Reliability

With fewer components and no reliance on electricity or fuel, the FireDos system offers greater reliability. There are fewer potential points of failure, reducing the risk that the system might not work when needed.

  • Fully Custom Packages

Chamco designed complete turnkey solutions for each site, integrating the FireDos technology into custom-engineered packages that included all necessary components. Each system was engineered to meet the specific requirements of the site while complying with all applicable fire protection standards.

The Results

FireDos foam package installed by Chamco for an oil & gas site, showcasing a water-driven fire protection solution designed for small facilities with limited space and budget.

Chamco successfully designed and built the FireDos packages to meet all customer requirements, delivering systems that were cost-effective, space-efficient, low-maintenance, and code-compliant.

Both oil & gas companies were so pleased with the solution that they are now considering FireDos systems for additional sites.

These projects demonstrate Chamco’s ability to develop tailored solutions that precisely meet customer needs while continuing to lead the way in advancing fire protection technology.
